Fifth racket in the world Andrey Rublev thanked the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) for upholding his appeal against disqualification in the semi-finals of the Dubai tournament and said he would learn a lesson from the situation.
Last week, the Russian was disqualified during his semi-final against Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik. At the end of the third set, Rublev shouted in Russian to the line referee, which is why the main referee of the match decided to disqualify the tennis player. According to the regulations, Rublev had to lose all prizes and points won during the competition and leave the top 5 of the ATP rankings. However, on Monday it became known that the ATP had granted Rublev’s appeal. He kept the points and prize money he received for reaching the semi-finals of the Dubai tournament.
“I would like to thank the ATP Appeal Committee for upholding my appeal and changing the original decision to disqualify me from the Dubai tournament and deprive me of the points and prize money I had won. hopes that in the future the ATP will take a closer look at this rule and make changes so that the referee cannot impose the outcome of a match without clear evidence and without giving the player the opportunity to watch a video of the episode.
I’m disappointed that I couldn’t finish the semi-final. Thank you for all the support I have received from you over the last two days, I have received many messages. I promise that I will learn from it and try to become a better player and a better person,” Rublev wrote on the social network.
Rublev is 26 years old. During his career, the Russian won 15 titles at ATP tournaments.
