Russian tennis player Natalia Vikhlyantseva explained why she decided to take a break from her professional career.
— Since 2019, I have been worried about injuries. I dreamed of returning at least to the top 50 and in 2022 I played the qualifications of Roland Garros, and then we were not allowed to reach Wimbledon. Then she played terribly in her last match in the Czech Republic. There were also injuries. Then I decided to take a break. I’m still there.
— So you haven’t officially finished your career yet?
“Yes, I have not yet decided to end my career,” Vikhlyantseva said, as quoted by Metaratings.ru.
Vikhlyantseva is the winner of three ITF tournaments (two singles and one doubles). The 27-year-old’s highest position in the WTA rankings was 54th place, which she held in October 2017.
Vikhlyantseva was a member of the Russian national team during the Fed Cup matches.
