Previously, the ITF decided to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the Paris Olympics as neutral participants.
“The tennis federation is one of the most independent and has been successful. The decision to admit athletes did not lead to any negative consequences. The world of tennis is a closed, but at the same time very close-knit family. At Wimbledon, everyone showed support for Russian athletes,” Svishchev said on “Match TV”.
Svishchev also highlighted the authority of Shamil Tarpishchev and other high-ranking representatives of the FTR, indicating that this is an important step for the entire possible Olympic team. Admission to individual and pairs competitions is an independent decision that contradicts IOC recommendations regarding the exclusion of Russian athletes from participation in team competitions.
On the issue of quotas, Svishchev noted that given the leading position of Russian tennis players in the world rankings, the maximum number of quotas should be expected.
Each National Olympic Committee can receive up to four quotas in each of the individual categories and up to two quotas in each of the doubles, as well as one quota in mixed pairs.
Qualification for the Olympics will be carried out in accordance with the ranking, which will be published on June 10, the day after the end of Roland Garros.
The Paris Summer Olympics are scheduled for July 26 to August 11.
