The Ukrainian woman did not react to all attempts to impose foul play
Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk spoke about proposals to play fixed matches.
“Of course, they offered me. However, I never respond to these messages. They write: “Martha, will you win today? Win today in straight sets.” This is our standard practice in general. They write to everyone, it seems to me.
“More than a year ago, a person I knew called my then boyfriend and asked: “Zhora, don’t you want to invite Marta to play a fixed match?” He told me this later. I was shocked. I thought: “Wow! Can you do it right in your face like that?!” Of course, there was no reaction to this from our side. They offered 25 thousand dollars.”
Kostyuk reached the final in San Diego at her last tournament, where she lost to Briton Katie Boulter. During the competition, the Ukrainian knocked out the fifth racket of the world, Jessica Pegula.
Marta will play at the WTA 1000 tournament in American Indian Wells, where she will start from the second round. The Ukrainian’s opponent in the first match will be Mai Hontama from Japan.
