Former world number nine Andrei Chesnokov told that the disqualification Andrei Rublev in the semi-finals of the Dubai tournament should not affect the Russian’s further play.
Last week, the Russian was disqualified during his semi-final against Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik. At the end of the third set, Rublev shouted in Russian to the line referee, which is why the main referee of the match decided to disqualify the tennis player.
According to the regulations, Rublev had to lose all prizes and points won during the competition and leave the top 5 of the ATP rankings. However, it later became known that the ATP accepted the appeal of Rublev, who retained the points and prizes received for reaching the semi-finals of the Dubai tournament.
— What are the prospects for our tennis players in Indian Wells?
— Russian players play well in singles now. Rublev and Medvedev are in good form. Danya is expected to participate in his first match, where he will face the winner of the Cobolli/Carballes-Baena pair. In fact, any tennis player can participate in the final. Medvedev lost to Alcaraz in the deciding match last year (6:3, 6:2). The Spaniard then played phenomenally, simply brilliant. For me the favorites are Djokovic, Alcaraz, Sinner and Medvedev.
— Will the Dubai story affect Rublev’s game?
“If it is so painful and affects Rublev’s game, then he needs to stop playing tennis. I think everything will be fine,” Chesnokov told .
The Masters Series tournament at Indian Wells takes place March 6-17.
