Former Romanian world number one Simona Halep announced that she will participate in the WTA 1000 tournament, which will be held in Miami.
On Tuesday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) partially upheld Halep’s appeal and reduced his suspension for anti-doping rule violations from four years to nine months.
— I am happy to announce that in two weeks I will return to the WTA tour during the Miami tournament! Thanks to the tournament for giving me the opportunity. I can’t wait to get back on the field and compete. See you soon! — wrote the 32-year-old athlete on the social network.
It is known that Halep received a wild card from the organizers of the Miami tournament.
Last September, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced that Halep would be suspended for four years. The Romanian woman was charged with two separate counts. The first involved a negative drug test result for the banned substance roxadustat at the 2022 US Open. The second charge was related to discrepancies in the athlete’s biological passport indicators.
Halep topped the WTA rankings for 64 weeks. The Romanian has won two Grand Slam singles tournaments: the 2018 French Open and 2019 Wimbledon. In total, the tennis player has 24 titles in WTA tournaments.
