Murray, before the match against Rublev at the Indian Wells tournament, said that players should respect the judges

Former British world number one Andy Murray before the match against the Russian Andrei Rublev during a tournament in Indian Wells (United States), said players should show more respect to judges.

Last week, Rublev was disqualified in the semi-final of the Dubai tournament against Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik. At the end of the third set, the Russian shouted in Russian to the line referee.

“All players need to be a little more careful in how we speak and treat officials. There is a huge difference between rugby and football: rugby is a great example of how it should work. Referees (in rugby) are treated with respect and we could probably do a better job of that in tennis as well.

I understand that in the heat of the moment things can sometimes happen, but I think over the last four or five years there have been a number of cases where the line has been crossed and maybe- be we haven’t done enough to avoid it.

So I think we all need to look at ourselves a little and think: is this really how we want to treat civil servants or react to controls in this way? – Murray reportedly told the BBC.

The second round match of the Indian Wells tournament between Rublev and Murray will take place on Friday.
