Kazakh tennis player Elena Rybakina refused to participate in the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells (USA) due to health problems.
Rybakina won this tournament last year. In the first match, the 24-year-old athlete was scheduled to play with Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska.
“It is with great sadness that I have to announce that I will not be able to play at Indian Wells this year due to gastrointestinal issues. My family knows how much this tournament means to me and how much I wanted to return to defend the title.
I want to thank all the fans who came to support me. I’m sorry they won’t get to see me play this time. Now I will recover to return to the field and play with maximum efficiency, ”the press service of the tournament quotes Rybakina’s statement.
Rybakina is the fourth racket in the world, winner of Wimbledon 2022.
