Athletistic / Tennis. The fourth racket in the world, Kazakh tennis player Elena Rybakina, refused to participate in the WTA-1000 tournament in Indian Wells (California, USA). The reason for the refusal was the state of health of a 24-year-old Muscovite.
“I am very sorry, but I have to inform you that due to health problems I will not be able to play in Indian Wells this year. This tournament means a lot to me, but now I have to take a break to rest, recover , then go back to the court and play,” Rybakina said in The Tennis Letter.
Note that due to Rybakina’s refusal, the tournament grid has changed. Now, in the second round, Argentina’s Nadia Podoroski’s opponent will be American Kayla Day (lucky loser).
In 2023, it was Elena Rybakina who became the winner of the Indian Wales tournament. She then beat Belarusian tennis player Arina Sabalenka in the final.
