“I really wanted to win and that was the key to success. I think Beatrice is performing well in this tournament. I didn’t expect such powerful shots from her since we met earlier this year and the game was completely different. Today was very It’s difficult to play against her, I’m proud of how I was able to handle this situation and I’m grateful to the fans who stayed to watch the match even at such a late hour.

In terms of expectations for the tournament, I’m at a point in my career where people often joke that I’m too old for all that. To be honest, my expectations are not that high. I just try to constantly improve from tournament to tournament. The conditions here are killing me. I train in the morning, I play in the evening, and it’s a completely different regime. Nothing worked in the first set. Beatrice was great. I’m happy I was able to find the moment and turn the tide of the match. I hope I can continue to improve,” Pavlyuchenkova shared after the match.
