“The prosecution spent more than $2 million on evidence in Halep’s doping case,” the tennis player’s lawyer said.

The prosecution spent about $2 million on evidence in the case of a tennis player violating anti-doping rules. Simona Halep said the athlete’s lawyer, Howard Jacobs.

Previously, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) partially upheld Halep’s appeal and reduced his suspension for anti-doping rule violations from four years to nine months.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had such a strange experience where they fought until the very end.” The case has become super, super complicated. I can’t even imagine how much money they spent on this case. As a rough estimate, that’s at least $2 million. They had so many experts and lawyers,” the lawyer said according to Sports Illustrated.

Last September, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced that Halep would be suspended for four years. The Romanian woman was charged with two separate counts. The first involved a negative drug test result for the banned substance roxadustat at the 2022 US Open. The second charge was related to discrepancies in the athlete’s biological passport indicators.

Halep topped the WTA rankings for 64 weeks. The Romanian has won two Grand Slam singles tournaments: the 2018 French Open and 2019 Wimbledon. In total, the tennis player has 24 titles in WTA tournaments.
