Potapova reached her third quarter-final this season. Previously, Anastasia reached this stage in Brisbane and retired during the match with Elena Rybakina. Then there were the quarter-finals in Linz and a defeat against Ekaterina Alexandrova and now the high bar at the Indian Wells Masters.
We cannot say that Potapova is playing regularly, she alternates between early eliminations and quarter-finals and so far she has not had a single semi-final under her belt this season.
At Indian Wells, Anastasia beat Marie Bouzkova 7-5, 6-1, then avoided a match with Rybakina, with Elena withdrawing from the tournament. Instead, there was an easier opponent, Nadya Podoroska, who Potapova easily beat 6-1, 6-1. In the third round there was the most difficult match against Jasmine Paolini and it went to three sets – 7-5, 0-6, 6-3.
Kostyuk’s performances are more brilliant this season: she has already made the final in San Diego and lost to Briton Katie Boulter. There were also quarter-finals at the Australian Open and the Adelaide tournament.
In Indian Wells, Kostyuk defeated the Japanese Haitama, advanced to the third round without a match after the withdrawal of the Czech Vondrousova and in the 1/8 final she defeated the Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-4, 6-1 .
