On the night of Saturday to Sunday in Indian Wells the second semi-final of the Masters category tournament will be played, in which our Daniil Medvedev and the American Tommy Paul will compete. Russia’s first racket is considered the favorite in this fight, but Paul will have the support of the home crowd on his side and that is always a big plus.
In personal meetings, Medvedev leads with a score of 2:0. Daniil confidently defeated the American at Roland Garros 2021 in the second round (3:6, 6:1, 6:4, 6:3), as well as in the first round of the tournament in Beijing last season – 6: 2 , 6:1.
And if the fact that the Russian reached the semi-finals of the current Masters is not a sensation, then few people expected to see Paul at this stage. And the reason for this is simple: the American was lucky with the tournament, in the sense that his strongest potential opponent – Novak Djokovic – lost in the 1/16 finals, and Tommy simply did not have top opponents before the quarter-finals. However, for his victory over Casper Ruud (6:2, 1:6, 6:3) in the previous stage of the tournament, Tommy really deserves praise. The Norwegian has just entered the top 10 and immediately receives a slap from Paul.
However, the American is not stable, although he currently holds a place in the top 20 of the ATP rankings. This season, Tommy has not yet won any major victories, and he won the title in Dallas only because he became the strongest among his compatriots, in the absence of Fritz.
Medvedev is good at the current Masters, he confidently faced Holger Rune in the quarterfinals and simply must reach the final of the tournament. Let’s remember that a year ago, Daniil lost the title match here to Carlos Alcaraz.
