Athletistic/Tennis. The 2024 Miami Open has begun and the women’s singles tournament promises to be a lot of fun. Petra Kvitova won last year’s tournament, defeating Elena Rybakina in the final. However, she will not be able to defend her title this year due to pregnancy. But even without it, there are enough tennis players who will fight for victory.

Jessica Pegula

One could argue with Pegula’s inclusion on this list, given his rough start to the 2024 season. However, one can’t help but note her previous semi-final performances at the last two Miami Open tournaments, as well as the fact that she is playing at home. Pegula suffered a disappointing second round loss at Indian Wells and will look to make up for it in Miami.

Coco Gauff

Coco Gauff has now won 16 of her 20 matches in 2024 and will be one of the favorites at the Miami Open. Even though the 20-year-old has never made it past the fourth round in Miami, given the quality of the tennis, she is fully capable of competing for the title. The American was close to reaching the final at Indian Wells and will be happy to lift the trophy at another home Masters.

Elena Rybakina

Elena Rybakina, who finished second last year, is one of the main favorites along with Iga Swiatek. The 2022 Wimbledon champion’s main concern has been her health, having withdrawn from tournaments on several occasions due to illness, most recently at Indian Wells.

Rybakina, however, is ready to compete at the Miami Open and if she stays fully healthy throughout the WTA 1000 tournament, there is a good chance we could see her win and claim her second title of the season. In addition, its mesh is much lighter than that of its competitors. Swiatek, Pegula and Gauff are in the draw, and Rybakina could theoretically have a potential semi-final with Sabalenka, but it’s unlikely Arina can get that far after the death of Konstantin Koltsov.

Iga Swiatek

World number one Swiatek is perhaps the main favorite to win the Miami Open. Iga won her second WTA 1000 title in 2024, winning the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, where she defeated Maria Sakkari in the final. During the entire tournament, she did not lose a single set. Swiatek already has the Sunshine Double under her belt, having won Indian Wells and Miami in 2022, and given her good form, many believe she has a chance of achieving this feat for the second time in her career.
