Miami tournament organizers gave Sabalenka an extra day off due to Koltsov’s death

The organizers of the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami awarded the second racket in the world to the Belarusian Arine Sabalenko an extra day of rest after the announcement of the death of his ex-lover Konstantin Koltsov reports journalist José Morgado on social networks.

In the second round of the tournament, Sabalenka will face Spaniard Paula Badosa. Previously, the main draw match was scheduled for March 21, but now the match is no longer scheduled for that match day.

On Tuesday, it became known about the death of former Pittsburgh hockey player and coach Salavat Yulaev Koltsov. Police in Miami-Dade County (United States) announced the opening of an investigation into the suicide of a 42-year-old Belarusian specialist. Sabalenka, who previously had a relationship with Koltsov, called the incident an unimaginable tragedy and asked to respect her privacy during such a difficult time.

The Miami tournament takes place from March 19 to 31, Sabalenka received the second seed.
