Stakhovsky: I met Russian players in Paris. Almost all of them passed by or turned away

At the same time, Stakhovsky thanked Rublev and Kasatkina for their support.

Former Ukrainian tennis player Sergei Stakhovsky admitted that disappointed with the position of Russian players after the beginning of the military invasion of Russia in Ukraine.

“They all fear for their fate. They do not want to go to jail, but they are ready to put up with what is happening. I would rather, on the contrary, go to jail for a few months or even years if it could save lives.”

“I met Russian players in Paris – I won’t name names – during Roland Garros. Almost all of them walked past or turned away when they saw that I was walking towards them. I have known them for a very long time. I watched their careers develop. It disappointed me to say the least.”

“Rublev is perhaps the only player who spoke openly about the need to end the war from its first week. I also really admire Daria Kasatkina. She is her own heroine. If there were more such Russians, this war would never have started, ”L’Equipe quotes Stakhovsky.

Earlier, Kasatkina said she wants to end the war as soon as possible, but does not know how to do it.
