Kostyuk: I got quite sick again. This is the third day of fever and very severe body pain.

Marta withdrew from the tournament in Miami

Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk told why she decided to skip the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami. She hopes to be able to recover by the start of the clay season.

“I have already played a very large number of matches, and I am very tired. This is especially evident from the fact that I got sick again this year. Now I just want to rest, go home and gain strength for the clay season,” Martha said.

“I first got sick after Australia – I had some kind of poisoning, I don’t even know what it was, either an infection or some kind of bacteria. Then I got very sick in Doha and missed it and Dubai. Then I played two tournaments and now I got quite sick again. I’ve had a fever for three days now, which is very difficult to break down, and very severe pain in my body.”

“So I just understand that even with these rains that are now going to be here in Miami for the next two days, I still won’t be able to recover properly. So I guess there is no point for me to sit here and waste time that I could spend on restoring the house. Yes, unfortunately, I’m missing this tournament, but I hope that overall the season will be successful and healthy.”

Today Kostyuk was supposed to play with the representative of the Netherlands Arancha Rus in the second round in Miami, but Marta withdrew from the tournament. The Ukrainian was replaced by Lucky Loser Oceane Dodin from France.

Last week, Kostyuk reached the semifinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells, where she lost to Iga Szwiatek. Marta is ranked 26th in the WTA world rankings.

Let us remind you that Kostyuk was not included in the Ukrainian national team’s squad for the match against Romania in the Billie Jean King Cup qualification. The confrontation will take place in Florida on April 12 and 13.
