Zverev won 6-2, 6-4 against Felix Auger-Aliassime to advance to the third round, where Christopher Eubanks awaited him. The German broke in the first set, but the American fought back. Zverev then emerged victorious in the ensuing tiebreak to win the set.
Sasha took a 3-0 lead in the second set and held the advantage for the rest of the match, beating Eubanks 7-6 (4), 6-3.
Khachanov beat Laszlo Djere 6-2, 6-4 to secure a place in the third round, where he faced 20th seed Francisco Cerundolo. The Russian confidently won the first set, losing only one game. The second set was even, but Serundolo took the lead towards the end of the match. The Argentinian took Khachanov’s serve in the 11th game and won the second set.
The tennis players exchanged breaks at the start of the third set, then the game was tied. Serundolo recovered a few match points on his serve with the score 5-6 and achieved a tie-break which went to Khachanov. Karen won the match with a score of 6-1, 5-7, 7-6(5).
In personal meetings, Zverev leads against Khachanov with a score of 3-2. The German won the previous meeting in the final of the 2021 Olympic Games in straight sets.
Forecast for the match Alexander Zverev – Karen Khachanov
It took Zverev time to find his game against Eubanks in the previous round. However, once he did that, there was no stopping him.
After an easy first set, Khachanov felt some serious resistance from Serundolo, but he eventually managed to move on.
Zverev and Khachanov would face each other almost three years later. The German beat Karen the last time they met to win gold at the Tokyo Olympics.
Four of the five matches went to straight sets, and all of them also took place on hard courts. Each player won two of those matches, with Zverev winning his only match in five sets on clay at the 2018 French Open.
Both players did not give their best in Miami and had serious problems in the previous round, especially Khachanov. Sasha has played better than Karen all year, so he will have an advantage in this fight.
Forecast: Alexander Zverev will win in straight sets.
