“Our tennis players continue to play for the country, despite various obstacles” – Svishchev on Medvedev’s leadership in the ATP rankings

Chairman of the Russian Federation State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports Dmitry Svishchev commented on the tennis player’s record stay Daniel Medvedev on the first line of the world ranking.

This week, Medvedev topped the ATP rankings for the 10th time, breaking the record Marat Safin which was the world’s number one racket for nine weeks.

– Daniil Medvedev’s record is a great achievement for our sport. Our tennis players continue to play for the country, despite sanctions and various obstacles. We remember the number of attempted provocations against Daniil – tournament bans etc., but he survived and got away with it. But Medvedev is only 26 years old, many victories in his career are yet to come.

We haven’t had such dominance in men’s tennis for a long time. Congratulations to Medvedev and we hope that the record of being on the front line will last for more than a week,” Svishchev said.
