“I was able to come here a little bit with a last minute decision. I hadn’t come before because I didn’t know what to say, whether I was going to play or not. I think that, as far as possible, the weeks of training have been positive and tomorrow I will be on track. The former world No. 1 began by declaring himself. Then he continued: “It’s a gift to be in Barcelona. I’m taking it as my last year. I have this feeling now. Not being in Monte-Carlo last week hurt me. But things have improved. The last time Rafael Nadal competed was almost three and a half months ago. On this occasion he lost in the third round in Brisbane against the Briton Jordan Thompson. The abdominal discomfort which prevented him from performing his duty normally, something which now seems to belong to the past. He then confirmed his absences from the Australian Open, the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and Monte Carlo because he was not in 100% physical shape. “Not being in Monte Carlo hurt me, but fortunately things improved this week and I feel comfortable enough to play tomorrow,” Nadal explained.
During a preview conference, the tennis legend also took the time to talk about how difficult it is for him to struggle with his present. “We know the problems, we have nothing to hide. I’m tired of recounting my ordeals when I have no reason on a personal level. Very good things happen to me too. The only thing that can happen is that things happen and I can’t continue playing. “I don’t set a deadline.”
Finally, he mentioned an update on his medical part: “I can’t give you an update on injuries because the list is long. I can only tell you that today I feel well enough to be on the pitch tomorrow and that means a lot.
