The Ukrainian paired with Elena Ostapenko lost to the duet Xie Shuwei / Elise Mertens
Ukrainian tennis player Lyudmila Kichenok paired with Latvian Jelena Ostapenko completed their performances in the doubles tournament WTA 1000 in the capital of Spain Madrid.
In the quarterfinals of the tournament, the Ukrainian-Latvian pair lost to the seeding leaders Xie Shuwei (Taiwan) and Elise Mertens (Belgium). Kichenok and Ostapenko managed to win a difficult first game, but then lost in the second set. And in the decisive tiebreaker, the Ukrainian and Latvian lost their advantage, leading with a score of 5:2.
Thus, Kichenok and Ostapenko were unable to take revenge on Xie Shuwei and Mertens for their defeat in January in the decisive match at the Australian Open.
Let us remind you that Nadezhda Kichenko, who paired with Japanese Miyu Kato, lost to two tennis players in a neutral status, also completed her performance at the tournament.
