Russian tennis player Andrei Rublev said he didn’t sleep for several days before the Masters Series tournament final in Madrid.
On Sunday, Rublev became the winner of the Masters in the Spanish capital. In the final of the tournament, the Russian defeated the Canadian Félix Auger-Alassime with a score of 4:6, 7:5, 7:5.
“If you knew what I had to go through over the last nine days, you would never have imagined that I could win the title. I am incredibly happy. Now it seems like I haven’t lost in the early rounds in the last six weeks.
—We heard that you had a fever and were feeling very unwell.
“I have to give credit to the doctors because they did some tricky things and I was able to play.” I’ve never seen that in my life. They are currently the best on the entire tour. It’s the title I’m most proud of. I haven’t slept much in the last three or four days,” Rublev said in an on-field interview.
Rublev, eighth in the world rankings, won the second Masters of his career. In total, the 26-year-old Russian has 16 victories in ATP singles tournaments.
