The Ukrainian lost to the German in the first set and won back a double match point in the second
Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremskaya managed to win a strong-willed victory over Laura Siegemund from Germany in a dramatic match in the second round of the tournament WTA 1000 V Rome (Italy).
The match, which lasted almost three hours, was extremely difficult for the Ukrainian. She started the first set with a lost serve, was constantly in the role of catching up, won back a set point at 3:5, but lost in the next game.
The second game also took a long time to develop in Siegemund’s favor. The German led with a score of 5:2, then gave up two games, but continued to keep the outcome of the game in her hands. On her serve, Laura received a double match point, but Dayana heroically won it back, after which she won the next two games with courage.
In the third set, Siegemund did not give up for a long time, leading 2:1 with a break, but her strength ran out. Yastremskaya won five games in a row without any problems and reached the third round, where she will fight the winner of the pair Katie Volynets (USA) – Aryna Sabalenka (-, 2).
Let us remind you that earlier Angelina Kalinina entered the third round of the Roman “thousander” on the refusal of compatriot Lesya Tsurenko. Marta Kostyuk, in turn, could not do anything with the former first racket of the world Naomi Osaka.
Kalinina and Yastremskaya may be joined in the third round by the strongest Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina, who is currently facing Italian Sara Errani.
