Multiple Serbian Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic thanked the fans for their support in the situation of non-admission to the US Open, saying he did not give up hope of participating in the tournament.
Djokovic has previously said he will not be vaccinated against coronavirus for a tournament in the United States, where a vaccination certificate is required. US Open organizers included the Serb in the list of tournament participants, but at the same time said they would respect the position of the US government regarding travel to the country by unvaccinated citizens from other states.
“I wanted to take a moment and tell everyone how grateful I am to see so many messages of support and love from around the world.
I did not expect that. It’s a special feeling when people treat my tennis career with so much love and support and want me to keep competing. I am preparing as if I will be allowed to compete, and I am waiting to be informed if there is an opportunity to go to the USA. Fingers crossed! Djokovic wrote on social media.
The US Open is scheduled to take place in New York from August 29 to September 11.
