Athletistic / Tennis. Former world number one Yevgeny Kafelnikov shared his expectations for the central Roland Garros 2024 first round men’s singles match between Spaniard Rafael Nadal and Germany’s Alexander Zverev.
“I have no doubt that the match will be difficult for both tennis players. Although many predict an easy victory for Zverev, I am absolutely not sure. The odds are at least 50 to 50. And , somewhere, I’m not sure, I’m even inclined to believe that Nadal is a slight favorite in this match. I will definitely watch their meeting, we will see how everything goes soon.
Nadal is unrivaled. With all my respect. What he did at Roland Garros during his career… 14 titles! This record will never be broken. He will make a very big contribution to the history of tennis,” Kafelnikov said, as quoted by Soviet Sport.
Rafael Nadal last won in Paris in 2022. The current Roland Garros champion is world number one, Serbian Novak Djokovic. Russian tennis players celebrated their triumph in the French capital only once: in 1996, Yevgeny Kafelnikov did so.
The match between Rafael Nadal and Alexander Zverev will take place on May 27 and will tentatively start at 4:20 p.m. Moscow time.
