The Ukrainian made it to the second round of Roland Garros 2024
The first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina commented on the victory over Karolina Pliskova from the Czech Republic in the first round of the main draw Roland Garros 2024.
“Pliskova is an outstanding champion with many achievements to her name. So I expected a tough battle. And in the end, I’m very happy that I was able to win this match.”
“Of course, it’s great to have a roof and a chance to play in the rain. So I definitely feel lucky to play here. And it’s never easy for me to play against Carolina, especially when it’s an indoor court. Then it seems to me that the ball practically does not move in the wind at all, although it blew a little here. So it wasn’t to the same extent as if we were playing without a roof. Therefore, these are different conditions, it took a little time to adapt.”
“We were both in the same conditions. I think we both knew we were lucky to play today.”
“For me, about an hour of training on the court is enough, and then the usual routine and recovery. I’ve been struggling a bit with some injuries lately, so the priority right now is recovery.”
Elina started the match with a successful break, but then lost four games in a row and was forced to give the set to her opponent – 3:6. In the second game, the Ukrainian managed to get revenge – at the decisive moment, with the score 5:4, she completely took Pliskova’s serve.
In the decisive set, the Czech woman resisted until the score was 2:2 – after which the Ukrainian tennis player won four games in a row. In the second round, Elina will fight with the Frenchwoman Diane Parry.
