Russian tennis player Daria Kasatkina said she managed to beat the representative of Kazakhstan Elena Rybakina thanks to the great concentration on the game.
The meeting was held the day before as part of the San José tournament. The Russian defeated the reigning Wimbledon champion with the score 1:6, 6:2, 6:0.
– First of all, I tried to be more consistent, because Elena is an amazing player. She has just won a Grand Slam and is one of the most aggressive players on the circuit. The best I could do was make her miss.
In the second set, I managed to turn the tide of the match. It was a very important match when it was served 2:1. I took a break, and after that everything went as it should.
I tried not to follow the score. It’s very hard, it’s almost impossible. Top players are capable of turning the tide of the match as soon as you lose focus. So I tried to force myself to be really focused, because I was a bit tired from jet lag and my mind was a bit fuzzy. I am happy that I was able to improve this aspect in my mentality, – the WTA website quotes Kasatkina.
The Russian woman’s next opponent will be United States Representative Taylor Townsend.
