Athletistic/Tennis. The French Open is over. Carlos Alcaraz won his first Roland Garros title with his victory over Alexander Zverev in the final. Among the women, Iga Swiatek won her fourth title in five years by beating Jasmine Paolini in the final.

Among the men, everything was expected, but the women’s tournament showed somewhat unexpected results. In this article, we look at three players who surprised at Roland-Garros:

Corentin Moutet

Thanks to his brilliant performances last year, Corentin Moutet climbed 23 places, going from 79th to 56th place in the ATP rankings. The Frenchman won his first three matches at Roland Garros this year, all in four sets, to reach the fourth round.

In the first round, he defeated 16th seed and finalist Nicolas Harry of the Italian Open. He then defeated Alexander Shevchenko and Sebastian Ofner in the second and third rounds respectively. In the fourth round, Moutet faced second seed Jannik Sinner. Moutet won the first set before Sinner fought back to win the next three sets. Despite the defeat, Moutet performed well in the tournament.

Mirra Andreeva

Andreeva is a new sensation in women’s tennis. This year, she surprised everyone by reaching the semi-finals of Roland-Garros. She won five matches, beating two seeds – 19th seed Victoria Azarenka and second seed Aryna Sabalenka.

Her victory over Sabalenka in three sets in the quarterfinals stunned the tennis community. However, she lost her semi-final against Jasmine Paolini in straight sets. Before this year’s Roland Garros, Andreeva had only competed in four Grand Slam tournaments. Thanks to her good performances, she now ranks 23rd in the ranking. Andreeva has a long career ahead of her and we can expect many good performances from her in the future.

Jasmine Paolini

Paolini was seeded 12th in the tournament, but few expected her to reach the final. Before the tournament, the 28-year-old had only won two WTA titles. However, much to the surprise of fans and experts, she defeated Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros this year.

In the semifinals, she also won in straight sets against the sensational Mirra Andreeva. However, in the final she met Iga Swiatek, who achieves impeccable results on clay. Paolini didn’t win, but it’s a tournament she can be proud of. Prior to this tournament, Paolini had not progressed beyond the fourth round in any of the Grand Slam tournaments she had participated in. The Italian finally reached 7th position in the WTA rankings. Paolini also reached the women’s doubles final, but ultimately lost to her opponents.
