Russian world number six Andrei Rublev will not participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, said the mother of tennis player Marina Maryenko.
Earlier, Russian Tennis Federation (RFF) President Shamil Tarpishchev told that the International Tennis Federation (ITF) had admitted all Russians from the expanded bid for the 2024 Games. The Russian side must send the final list to the ITF by June 19.
“I only recently learned from Andrei that he will not participate in the Olympics. But he didn’t say why. Of course, he wanted to participate in this tournament.
I think it has to do with health. Andrey just needs to find time to heal his throat. Treat or remove tonsils. He was currently under treatment. I understand that after this the body is greatly weakened. These are my assumptions, but I don’t know the exact reasons,” Maryenko said, as quoted by Sport24.
Rublev is the 2020 Olympic mixed doubles champion. The 26-year-old athlete has 16 victories in ATP tournaments.
