Earlier, Russian Tennis Federation (RFF) President Shamil Tarpishchev said Rublev, Khachanov and Lyudmila Samsonova would not participate in the Games. They will be replaced by Pavel Kotov, Aslan Karatsev and Anna Kalinskaya.
“It’s a shame they’re not playing in the Olympics. Rublev could take revenge for his last unsuccessful performance. He is an excellent tennis player. Khachanov can also show good results. They both performed successfully at the last Olympics and can now compete for medals,” Yanchuk said.
“It’s a very good opportunity for Kotov. He performed well at Roland Garros and is a talented player with good prospects. The Olympics will be beneficial for its growth. Karatsev, although out for a while due to injury, remains a reliable player. Aslan is a silver medalist in Tokyo and his experience will be a big plus,” added the coach.
The Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11.
