‘Excited about what we can do together’: Tabilo introduces Horacio Matta as his new coach

After passing the first round of the Queen’s ATP 500, the Chilean announced who will be the replacement for Guillermo Gómez.

Alejandro Tabilo (24th ATP) has already chosen who his new coach will be. After completing a six-year cycle with Guillermo Gómez, where he managed to consolidate his professional career, enter the top 60 of the rankings and win an ATP title, the Chilean trusts Horacio Matta as his new coach.

A decision which was confirmed today after reaching the second round of the Queen’s ATP 500, where he is accompanied by the national coach. “Good start to the Cinch Championship, very happy with this victory. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to Horacio, who will start working with me within the team. I am very happy and excited about what we can do together. “, he wrote on his Instagram account after beating the Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (33rd) 7-6, 3-6 and 6-1. This Wednesday, he will face Tommy Paul in the round of 16.

In this way, Matta takes on a new challenge alongside a national tennis player, since in the past he added stages with Fernando González and Christian Garin. With the latter, it ended abruptly after the northerner decided to cut the link after Wimbledon 2018. “Garin told me that he was not going to play the quality because his arm hurts and I don’t know what. I spent 15 minutes shouting at him on the phone, insulting him, forcing him to go to London. I told him: you are going to London and there is no other alternative. I must have insulted him, it wasn’t intentional and he filed it away. Afterwards, he told me that I shouted at him a lot and that he no longer wanted to train with me,” the coach then revealed.

Of course, with Garin he still achieved excellent results. When they started working together in December 2017, he was 320th in the world, while by the end of the process he had risen to 169th in the ATP rankings.

Just after reaching the semi-finals of the Masters 1000 in Rome, Alejandro Tabilo spoke to Deportivo and gave details about his separation with Guillermo Gómez and what he was looking for in this new period. There he also admitted that his desire is to stay as long as possible in the country, which is why it is assumed that the center of operations that he will have with Matta will be precisely in Santiago.

On the other hand, he was honest about the end of the cycle with Gómez. “With Guille, I have nothing but respect. He was a very important person, a fundamental element from the beginning. He took great care of me when I arrived in Chile and always helped me a lot. The separation was hard, very sad. Everyone knows that we shared with Tomi (Barrios), but with so many tournaments and such different schedules, the logistical part became very difficult. and that was why more than anything. “By discussing well with Guille, we decided what could be best for both of us, for my tennis… And it is with great sadness that we had to separate and make this difficult decision,” he said. -He specifies.
