Azarenka complained about the ignorance of those around her regarding the admission of Russians and Belarusians to Wimbledon

Former Belarusian world’s first racket Victoria Azarenko who is a member of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) players’ council, said she tried to influence Wimbledon’s decision to withdraw Russian and Belarusian tennis players from the tournament, but was faced with the ignorance of others in this matter.

The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) have announced that Russian and Belarusian tennis players are banned from playing Wimbledon and other tournaments in the UK in 2022 due to the situation in Ukraine.

“I’m on the players’ council, so I can’t completely walk away from the situation. I take this part of my job very seriously. I think people have missed a great opportunity to show how sport can bring people together. We missed that opportunity, but hopefully we can still show it.

I like to find a way out of difficult situations. I think the hardest part was the absolute ignorance and indifference of others. It was hard to digest because you come with options and opportunities and your heart and the answer is basically, “We don’t care” – quoted by Azarenka Tennis.com .

Azarenka is 33 years old and is ranked 20th in the WTA rankings. The Belarusian tennis player is the 2012 Olympic champion in mixed doubles with Maxim Mirny, winner of two Grand Slam singles tournaments (Australian Open 2012, 2013).
