It did not work – the score became 5:1 in the first set, after which Sabalenka came out to serve and realized that with this pain she would not be able to finish the match. This is how Anna Kalinskaya qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament.
As for the confrontation between Azarenka and Kalinskaya, the head-to-head matches are a 1:1 draw. In the 2023 season, at the tournament in Charleston (clay), the Russian celebrated success in two sets – 6:4, 7:6. The Belarusian tennis player took revenge this year, at the tournament in Brisbane (hard) and also in two sets, the second of which also ended in a tie-break – 6:1, 7:6. And now the girls will meet on the third type of surface: on grass.
