Nicolas Jarry’s confessions before Paris: “Winning an Olympic medal is a dream”

The national tennis player has become a brand new ambassador of Panam Sports for the event which begins on July 26 and does not hide his joy at participating in the rings event for the first time.

Nicolás Jarry has been announced as a member of the Panam Sports team , who will participate in the Paris Olympic Games. Alongside the tennis player there are notable personalities, such as the Cuban wrestler Mijaín López, the Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade, theDominican athlete Marileidy Paulino, Canadian swimmer Maggie McNeil and Argentine rugby player Marcos Moneta. Saint Lucian sprinter Julien Alfred, Mexican diver Osmer Olvera and American discus thrower Valarie Allman.

Following his nomination, Nico spoke about the importance of participating in his first in-ring date. “It means a lot. I’m very excited, I really want to go to Paris, to be part of the Olympics, of everything that it means to be part of such a big event. It’s always been a dream for me and also to represent Chile, as beautiful as it always is, at the Davis Cup, at the Pan American Games, on the circuit. So I’m really looking forward to this moment,” he commented in a chat with Panam Sports.

During the conversation, he mentioned the Olympic exploits of Nicolás Massú and Fernando González. “They are idols and they are very difficult goals to achieve. The one that everyone won: Fernando with the three medals and Nico with the two gold medals… Very few people in the world will be able to achieve this. More in tennis, because of the nature of the sport. “Having an Olympic medal is a dream, whatever it is,” he said.

“The competition is already incredible. I would have liked to have been able to participate much earlier in my career, I was close to the last two Games, but life didn’t give me the opportunity. Now yes. “I’m grateful to have this opportunity, I want to stay healthy and have nothing happen so I can be a part of it,” he added.

As for his expectations in Paris, he opts for caution. “I’m a little calmer. Voy step by step I go tournament by tournament. I try to do a lot of planning around my most important tournaments, namely the Grand Slam and the Olympics. I plan to play previous tournaments to be as good as possible, but in my head right now the goal is my next tournament and I’m taking it tournament by tournament,” he said.

“Well, in the end, the dream is to have a medal, obviously. Everyone wants that and when you play for your country, things change. It’s not the same as playing a circuit tournament during the year, these are my first Games, so I have to be very strong to see what emotions this competition gives rise to in me,” he said. he adds.

Family

Jarry also had words to describe his environment and how he was trained in the sport. “I think the instinct is also a little provoked by the environment, having always grown up surrounded by tennis with my family, with my parents, with my grandfather. It’s the sport we always talked about or played the most throughout my childhood. So, I played a lot of sports, but I always heard about tennis,” he said.

And he detailed: “I enjoyed doing everything. football, school athletics, snowboarding. I took surfing lessons, rugby lessons, I played golf… There were always all kinds of balls at home, volleyball…”.

He also spoke of the meaning of family. “The most important thing I have and the most important thing everyone has. Thanks to my parents, I exist and I think that being a father is the most beautiful thing there is,” he said.

“I am lucky to be able to travel with them. With the difficulty of my life, I have a woman who accompanies me, who supports me and who is ready to sacrifice her life and to be in my dynamic which is very heavy. “I’m very lucky and that makes every moment even more beautiful,” he said.

When asked if he would like his children to follow the same path, the Chilean number one was categorical: “If I imagine it, whether I like it or not, the truth is that I don’t know much about it. I want him to choose his own path, I will be there no matter what, supporting him no matter what, just like me. He won’t remember the first time he picked up a tennis racket, it’s part of him, he loves playing, he loves watching, he loves this sport. Juan looks a lot like me. For now we are looking at Santiago’s personality, but if they want to dedicate themselves to tennis, I will not deny it under any circumstances.”

Finally, he delivered a message to his new colleagues. “Always when you’re in a group and you’re shooting from the same side, everything gets better. So this will always be welcome and will help us all to do the best we can. Good luck to everyone who is close to qualifying, congratulations to those who have qualified. I hope we all come away strengthened and with a great story and experience of what’s to come. “May we be well united and bring out all that we have harvested and worked to bring forth during these two beautiful weeks, so that we can be very satisfied with ourselves and leave the country as high as possible.” he concluded.
