Russian Tennis Federation (RFF) Vice President Alexei Selivanenko explained to why Russian tennis players Pavel Kotov, Aslan Karatsev, Veronika Kudermetova and Diana Schneider will receive invitations from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in the future.
Earlier on Thursday, the IOC invited Daniil Medvedev, Andrei Rublev, Karen Khachanov, Roman Safiullin, Daria Kasatkina, Lyudmila Samsonova, Ekaterina Alexandrova and Mirra Andreeva to the Games. The Russian Tennis Federation (RFT) reported that Kotov, Karatsev, Kudermetova and Schneider were also nominated for the Olympics. At the same time, the application did not include Rublev, Khachanov, Samsonova and Kasatkina, who refused to participate in the Games.
According to , the second list of Russian tennis players who will participate in the Paris Olympic Games will be published on July 8.
— There is nothing particularly new in the list: the IOC, following a formal procedure, sent individual invitations on June 10 to eight tennis players based on the ATP and WTA rankings.
Some of them have already announced their different decision and will therefore inform the IOC about it. Then, instead of them, invitations will be sent to the next ones according to the same ranking, until the names that are already on everyone’s lips are confirmed, Selivanenko told .
The Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The tennis tournament will take place on clay courts.
