For the first time in the history of the prestigious tennis tournament, eight Ukrainians will compete for the championship.
Ukraine set a record at this year’s Wimbledon tennis tournament, which kicks off in the UK. Eight Ukrainian women will play in the main draw of the tournament and compete for the main prize.
The historic victory was made possible thanks to the successful qualification of Ukrainians for the competition. We remind you that the day before, thanks to the selection, Yulia Starodubtseva got into the main draw.
And after Daria Snigur overcame the qualifications, and in a difficult three-set match, with a score of 1:6, 7:5, 7:5, she defeated the Turkish representative Zeynep Sonmez, the Ukraine has set a record.
So, Yulia Starodubtseva and Daria Snigur will play in the main draw of the grass major. There they will be joined by Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremskaya, Lesya Tsurenko, Angelina Kalinina and Ekaterina Beindl.
So, Ukraine will be represented by eight tennis players at once. Before this, the record was seven representatives of our country.
Seven Ukrainian women have played in Australia three times, as well as twice at Wimbledon and Roland Garros.
