Russian tennis players Roman Safioulline And Ekaterina Alexandrova has accepted the invitation from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, according to the organization’s official website.
On Friday, the IOC approved the invitation to the 2024 Games for Anna Kalinskaya and Pavel Kotov. The first guest list included Daniil Medvedev, Andrei Rublev, Daria Kasatkina, Mirra Andreeva, as well as Karen Khachanov and Lyudmila Samsonova. Opposite the names of Khachanov and Samsonova is the words “refusal of invitation”. Opposite Alexandrova and Safioullina – “the invitation was accepted.”
In February 2022, the IOC recommended that sports federations not allow Russians and Belarusians to participate in international tournaments. Later, the recommendations were relaxed and in December 2023, IOC head Thomas Bach announced that the organization would allow Russian and Belarusian athletes who passed the selection process for the 2024 Summer Games in a neutral status individual. Athletes will be able to perform in Paris without a flag, anthem and other national symbols.
The Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
