Russian tennis players Karen Khachanov And Lyudmila Samsonova refused to participate in the Paris Olympics, according to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) website.
On Friday, the IOC approved invitations to the 2024 Games for Anna Kalinskaya and Pavel Kotov. The first list of invitees included Daniil Medvedev, Andrei Rublev, Roman Safiullin, Daria Kasatkina, Ekaterina Alexandrova, Mirra Andreeva, as well as Khachanov and Samsonova.
In February 2022, the IOC recommended that sports federations not allow Russians and Belarusians to participate in international tournaments. Later, the recommendations were softened, and in December 2023, IOC chief Thomas Bach announced that the organization would allow Russian and Belarusian athletes who passed the selection process to the 2024 Summer Games in an individual neutral status. The athletes will be able to perform in Paris without a flag, anthem, and other national symbols.
The Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
