Belarusian world number three Arina Sabalenko will not play at Wimbledon due to a shoulder injury, the press service of the Grand Slam tournament reports.
Earlier, the 26-year-old athlete said that her injury could prevent her from performing in London. Sabalenka was scheduled to face American Emina Bektas in the first round. Now the opponent of the American tennis player will be a Russian Erica Andreeva .
“I did everything I could to prepare for Wimbledon, but unfortunately my shoulder is not giving way. My team explained to me that playing would only make the situation worse. This tournament means a lot to me, I promise that next year I will come back stronger than ever,” Sabalenka wrote on the social network.
Sabalenka is a two-time Australian Open singles champion.
