The fate of the second set had to be determined in a tie-break
Ukrainian tennis player Diana Yastremskaya today started in the first round Wimbledon 2024where she beat the Argentine in two sets Nadia Podoroska.
The match lasted 1 hour and 36 minutes. The first set was very easy for Dayana – already in her debut she was able to lead with a break, and in the end she triumphed with a score of 6:1.
The second set also began with an obvious advantage for Yastremska – thanks to two breaks, she led 3:0 in the game, but allowed Podoroska to return to the game. The Argentine won back the gap and moved the game to a tiebreaker, where Yastremskaya nevertheless confirmed her status as the favorite of the pair and prevailed over her opponent.
In the second round of Wimbledon 2024, Yastremska will play against Varvara Gracheva, who today beat another Ukrainian, Lesia Tsurenko.
Today, two more Ukrainians will play their first matches at the tournament: Marta Kostyuk will play against Rebecca Šramková from Slovakia, and Yulia Starodubtseva will face Belgian representative Alison van Uytvanck.
The British Grand Slam tournament will be held from July 1 to 14. In last year’s Wimbledon, the best among Ukrainians was Elina Svitolina, who reached the semi-finals.
