Sabalenka withdrew from Wimbledon 2024 due to a shoulder injury

The third racket of the world was supposed to start the tournament today

World No.3 Arina Sabalenko announced her decision to withdraw from Wimbledon 2024 due to a shoulder injury.

According to the “neutral” tennis player, she felt discomfort during morning training, after which her team advised her to withdraw from the tournament.

Sabalenka was supposed to start Wimbledon 2024 today against American Emina Bektas. The world’s third-ranked player will be replaced by another “neutral” player, Erika Andreeva, as a “lucky loser”.

Today, three Ukrainians have already played at Wimbledon 2024: Lesia Tsurenko lost to Varvara Gracheva, Marta Kostyuk beat Rebecca Shramkova, and Dayana Yastremska beat Nadia Podoroska. Another Ukrainian will also start in the main draw of the tournament today: Yulia Starodubtseva will face Belgian Alison van Uytvanck.

The British Grand Slam tournament will be held from July 1 to 14. In last year’s Wimbledon, the best among Ukrainians was Elina Svitolina, who reached the semi-finals.
