Former world number one Eugene Kafelnikov said he was shocked by Russia’s defeat Andrei Rublev in the first round of Wimbledon.
On Tuesday, Rublev lost to Argentine Francisco Comesana, world number 122, 4:6, 7:5, 2:6, 6:7 (5:7) in the first round of Wimbledon. In the third game, after two lost serves, the Russian hit his knee several times with his racket, causing it to bleed.
– Rublev lost? What?! I didn’t watch the match, you surprised me now with this result, it just shocks me.
“If Andrey loses on grass to a South American, it’s hard for me to say what he should do next. Something needs to be changed – maybe the coach, maybe the manager,” Kafelnikov told RB Sport.
Rublev is 26 years old and has 16 ATP singles titles to his name.
