Dayana beat Varvara Gracheva, Yulia lost to Lulu Sun
Two Ukrainian tennis players finished their second round matches almost simultaneously Wimbledon 2024. Diana Yastremskaya I overcame it with great difficulty Varvara Gracheva from France, and Julia Starodubtseva couldn’t overcome the barrier in her face Lulu Sun from New Zealand.
Yastremska lost the first set (3:6), but took revenge in a surprising second set, where only one of ten serves (played by Dayana) was defended.
The decisive third game was drawn out. At 4:4, the French passport holder made a break, but the Ukrainian immediately responded with kindness. The game eventually went to a tie-break, where Yastremska closed this difficult game quite confidently — 10:5.
Starodubtseva managed to turn the game around in the first set, taking three games in a row with the score 3:3. The New Zealander got even in the second set. Leading 5:2, she missed six set points, but still finished off her opponent in the next game. The third set was even more dominated by Lulu, who gave up only two games to Yulia.
For Sun (formerly known by her surname Radovcic), the Wimbledon fairy tale continues – let us recall that in the first round of the main draw she sensationally knocked out the world’s eighth racket Zheng Qingwen.
Recall that five Ukrainians made it to the second round of the British major, setting a historic achievement. The match between Marta Kostyuk and Daria Saville from Australia was postponed to Thursday, July 4, due to bad weather. Daria Snigur and Elina Svitolina will also compete for a spot in the 1/16 finals.
