Ukrainian and Babos from Hungary beat British pair who received wild card
Ukrainian tennis player Nadezhda Kichenok successfully started in the doubles tournament Wimbledon 2024.
Performing in a duet with a Hungarian Timea Babosthe Ukrainian won over the British women Naykta Baines and Amelia Rajecki, who received a wild card. The fight lasted one hour and 26 minutes.
The turning point of the first set was a successful break by Nadezhda and Timea at 3:3. After that, it was not difficult for them to bring the set to victory. In the second set, history repeated itself, only the Ukrainian-Hungarian tandem managed to take not the seventh, but the fifth game on the opponents’ serve.
In the next round, Kichenok and Babos will face the third seeds of the tournament, Nicole Melichar / Ellen Perez (USA / Australia).
Let us recall that five Ukrainians are competing in the doubles at the British major. Marta Kostyuk and Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse are playing against Giuliana Olmos (Mexico) and Alexandra Panova (-), Angelina Kalinina and Dayana Yastremska are facing 11th seeds Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula (USA), and Liudmyla Kichenok and Elena Ostapenko from Latvia (who previously defeated Daria Snigur in singles) will meet Daria Saville from Australia and Yuan Yue from China.
