Ukrainian tennis players Angelina Kalinina And Diana Yastremskaya lost to the Americans after a fight Coco Gauff And Jessica Pegula in the first round of the doubles Wimbledon 2024.
The match lasted more than two and a half hours. The two representatives of the top-4 singles world women’s ranking were objectively considered the favorites of the confrontation, but they received fierce and equal resistance.
In the first set, Coco and Jessica were leading 3:0, 4:1, 5:2, but the Ukrainians made a comeback. And yet the set remained with the representatives of the USA – 7:5.
Then history repeated itself: Dayana and Angelina were losing by three games, but they tied the score and took the game to a tie-break. There, in an equal fight, Gaff and Pegula lost a match point, after which their opponents equalized the stakes – 9:7, 1:1 in the sum of sets.
In the decisive set, the Ukrainian representatives again caught up, again bringing the score to 5:5, but the American athletes won the final game.
