Djokovic admitted recent surgery affected his Wimbledon performance

Serbian world number two Novak Djokovic said that due to a knee injury he had problems with his speed during matches at the Wimbledon tournament.

On Thursday, Djokovic reached the third round of Wimbledon by beating Britain’s Jacob Fearnley 6-3, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5. In early June, the 37-year-old ended his performance at Roland Garros prematurely, withdrawing from the quarterfinals due to a meniscus injury. He subsequently underwent knee surgery.

“I feel like the injury is affecting my movement a little bit in terms of speed. I’m a little bit late for balls that I’m not usually late for. I think I’ll get used to it in a few matches. So the longer I’m in the tournament, the more likely my movement will improve.”

But I’m not afraid of reinjuring my knee. I don’t have the time or energy to think about it, it’s worth it. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think that not only me, but the whole team, is ready to perform at this level.

“Today I had freedom of movement at certain moments, but then it disappears again. In a way it is expected and normal, when you come back from the operation the body tries to understand what is happening,” Djokovic said at a press conference.

In the third round, Djokovic will face Australian representative Alexei Popyrin.
