Olympic tennis champion Elena Vesnin admitted that she really wants to participate in her fifth Games in Paris, but does not yet know what response the IOC will give.
Russian Tennis Federation (RFF) President Shamil Tarpishchev told that Vesnina, 37, had been added as a reserve to compete at the 2024 Olympics.
— The desire to participate in the Olympic Games was and remains. I don’t know when the answer will come from the IOC. I hope everything will go well, I hope the candidacy will be approved and I will go to my fifth Olympic Games. The Games have always been very important to me.
— This tournament would be important for you, especially after you resume sports. A certain Last Dance.
– Yes, it would be my Last Dance. That was my main goal: to go to the Olympic Games. I hope it will happen,” Vesnina told .
Vesnina is entered in doubles with Ekaterina Alexandrova, but their participation has not yet been confirmed. At the moment, it is planned that Mirra Andreeva and Diana Schneider will compete from Russia in women’s doubles. At the same time, Vesnina must first receive an invitation to the Olympic Games from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and then accept it.
Vesnina is the 2016 Olympic champion in doubles, the 2020 Olympic silver medalist in mixed doubles.
The Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11. The tennis tournament will be played on clay courts.
