The former winner of two Wimbledons is retiring and will not play in his home tournament again.
The day before, a historic event took place at Wimbledon. Former world number one Andy Murray played his last match at a British major.
As part of the 1/32 finals in doubles, a match took place where Andy and his older brother Jamie faced off against Rinka Hijikata and John Pierce.
The Australian tennis duo defeated the British brothers in straight sets to advance to the next round.
Wimbledon. Double. First round. July 4th
Rinka Hijikata/John Pierce (Australia) – Andy Murray/Jamie Murray (Great Britain) – 7:6, 6:4
This result also marks the fact that Andy Murray will not play again at Wimbledon, which he announced before the start of the tournament.
Immediately after the match, a farewell ceremony took place for the 37-year-old Briton, who has two wins at Wimbledon in singles (2013, 2016).
“I’ve wanted to play forever. I love this sport. It’s given me so much. It’s given me a lot of lessons over the years that I can use for the rest of my life. I don’t want to stop, it’s very difficult,” said Andy after the match.

It’s worth noting that Andy might miss this game, as he underwent back surgery just two weeks ago. For the same reason, he refused to participate in the singles tournament.
Let’s remember that Elina Svitolina once met a football legend at Wimbledon.
