Famous French tennis player Gael Monfils retired from singles competition Wimbledon 2024.
In the 1/16 finals match, 37-year-old Monfils lost to the world’s 10th racket To Grigor Dimitrov from Bulgaria. The fight lasted almost two hours.
In the first two sets, Dimitrov needed only one break to win – 6:3 and 6:4. In the third set, the 2014 Wimbledon semi-finalist won two games on Gael’s serve and secured the final victory – 6:3.
In the 1/8 finals, Dimitrov will play the winner of the match Jan-Lennard Struff (Germany) – Daniil Medvedev (-, 5).
Monfils failed to repeat his best result at Wimbledon. In 2018, the Frenchman reached the 4th round of the grass major.
Monfils’ wife, Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, will play Ons Jabeur in the third round of Wimbledon on Saturday.
