Athletistic / Tennis. The President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RFF) Shamil Tarpishchev believes that the 18th racket in the world, Russian tennis player Anna Kalinskaya, is capable of defeating the 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina (4th number in the WTA ranking) from Kazakhstan. These tennis players will meet in the fourth round match (1/8 finals) of the Grand Slam on grass in 2024.
“Kalinskaya is playing very well at Wimbledon 2024 and she has a chance to win the match with Rybakina. Anna must play firmly and tenaciously in a long exchange of shots, she is weaker than Elena, but she must try to play alone, use her trump cards,” — TASS quotes Tarpishchev as saying.
The match between Anna Kalinskaya and Elena Rybakina at Wimbledon will take place on July 8 and will start at 15:30 Moscow time.
The only Russian woman to win Wimbledon is Maria Sharapova. She achieved this success at the age of 17. In the final of the tournament in 2004, Sharapova defeated the legendary American Serena Williams with a score of 6:1, 6:4.
